'India should not have closed door': Former coach questions Mohammed Shami’s exclusion

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has questioned the decision to overlook Mohammed Shami , arguing that the experienced pacer still has plenty to offer Indian cricket. Shami has remained out of India’s plans for an extended period, with his last international appearance coming in the Champions Trophy. Despite continuing to produce strong performances in domestic cricket, the 36-year-old has not been recalled, raising doubts over his future with the national side. The situation also follows a public disagreement between Shami and chief selector Ajit Agarkar last year. After Shami was left out of the Test squad for the West Indies series, Agarkar raised questions about his fitness. Shami responded by pointing to his participation in the Ranji Trophy as evidence that he was fit enough to compete. With Shami now set to feature in his 100th first-class match during the Duleep Trophy final for East Zone, Arun believes the veteran fast bowler deserves greater respect for his performances and longevity. Also Read: Has Varun Chakravarthy lost his mystery magic? Arun said selectors should not have ruled Shami out based on his age, particularly when he continues to perform at a high level. He also highlighted the pacer’s remarkable durability and his ability to remain effective with the red ball. Shami has also been overlooked on occasions when Jasprit Bumrah was unavailable, with the Indian team management instead opting to back younger fast bowlers. However, Shami's determination to return to international cricket remains evident. East Zone captain Ishan Kishan recently praised the veteran pacer's intensity and work ethic, saying Shami even asked for additional overs in search of wickets. Kishan also noted a renewed hunger in Shami during the current domestic season. According to him, the pacer appears highly motivated to earn another opportunity with India and is working with the mindset of making a comeback to the national squad. For now, Shami continues to make his case through domestic cricket, with his performances keeping alive the possibility of another India return.

Indian cricket fraternity reacts as India bundle out Pakistan for paltry 55 to register clinical win in Women’s Asia Cup 2026

India bowled Pakistan out for their lowest-ever women's T20I score of 55, and then overhauled the target quite easily to clinch a massive seven-wicket victory in their Women's Asia Cup 2026 Group A clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday (September 5). Pakistan captain Fatima Sana's decision to bat first backfired, as India's spinners ran riot. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat picked up three wickets each, while Deepti Sharma took two and Shafali Verma one. The Women in Blue reached the target in just 8.4 overs, losing only three wickets, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 18 not out. This win gave India six points from three matches and secured their spot in the semifinals. Earlier in the tournament, the Harmanpreet-led side had registered clinical wins against Thailand and Hong Kong. The Indian cricket fraternity was all praises for India’s dominant show over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup fixture. Here are the reactions: For all the build-up and talk of the rivalry, Pakistan only managed 55. Saw bits. Afraid what I saw looked a bit ordinary — Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) September 5, 2026 Aaj Sunday hai kya? — Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) September 5, 2026 The only good thing to come out of this is Mohsin Naqvi shouldn’t want to come for the finals even if Pakistan make it. He wouldn’t want to see this effort from his team. @RevSportzGlobal — Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) September 5, 2026 In the ‘mother of all battles’ Pakistan women get bowled out for 55 against India in the Women’s Asia Cup game in Dubai #IndvsPak #PakvsInd #IndWvsPakW — Vikrant Gupta (@vikrantgupta73) September 5, 2026 India vs Pakistan matches have become so one-sided, even mobile cricket games should remove the fixture. ???? #INDvPAK — S.Badrinath (@s_badrinath) September 5, 2026 Pak batters absolutely clueless against Indian spinners. Trying to attack the two best finger spinners in the world with non-existent plans and technique... 35/6 as I tweet this. Might be all-out by the time my internet allows it to publish. One more #IndvPak mismatch .. — Jatin Sapru (@jatinsapru) September 5, 2026

How the news of ForBets works

Where the stories come from, how your feed is made and how to get an alert, with the terms of the news pages.

The stories are collected from the news sources of the sports we cover, and each one says where it comes from. For some of them only the opening and a link to the original are shown: the full text is read on the site of the publisher, who owns it.

News has three tabs. Your feed shows the stories of the sports you follow, Discover shows every sport, and Saved holds the stories you kept to read later. You can search by headline or topic, narrow the list to one sport, and mark everything as read.

Yes. In your account, under Sports & alerts, choose the sports you follow and how you want to hear about each one: in the app, by push or by email. The bell in the header collects the new stories of your sports and the new picks of the analysts you follow.

News is for reading and does not recommend bets. For picks, open the list of matches and compare the analysts by their records. The two are kept apart on purpose: a story is a report, and a pick is an opinion that its author answers for.
